Uplifting the poor and less educated
The Guru Nanak Mission Medical and Educational Trust is a non-profit charity providing healthcare and education services in Dhahan Kaleran, in the Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar District in Punjab. It is registered under the Societies Registration Act in India.
Guru Nanak Mission Medical and Educational Trust was founded in 1979
It’s primary founder, Mr. Budh Singh Dhahan, was a social activist who is famously quoted as saying,
“I want to uplift the poor and less educated, especially young girls and women.”
That simple statement has formed the goal and activities surrounding the Trust since its inception.
Our history
In 1980, 17 acres of land were donated to the Trust by the Dhahan village, along with 6 acres by the adjacent Kaleran village, in the state of Punjab, India.
In addition, significant monetary donations have been received from within Punjab (and other areas of India), Canada, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Fiji and other countries.
The donated resources were used to begin building amenities where low-cost or free social services could be offered to the local population – namely healthcare and education.
Ideas, coupled with meaningful action, spearheaded the development of the area. Formerly, it was a rural farming region with a mostly underserved population. Limited prospects were available for locals, most notably in the way of jobs or economic opportunities. Average families were financially challenged when trying to access quality healthcare.
Today, much of that has changed, thanks to the accomplishments of the Trust.

Our future
The Guru Nanak Mission Medical and Educational Trust board meets regularly to plan for expansion. The organization aims to meet the needs of the local population as it develops.
Being a non-governmental organization (NGO), the Trust is funded primarily by local donors and Non-Indian Residents (NRIs) living overseas, namely in Canada, the United States of America and the United Kingdom. Service and tuition fees are also collected (based on income status), to help cover the cost of its activities.
No government support is provided for the services offered by the organization.
We encourage all who visit this website to consider a donation to the organization. The need is always greater than the supply.
